How hypnobirthing works
Since the end of the 1980s, the U.S. hypnotherapist Marie F. Mongan has been developing a technique to help women feel more confident during childbirth: hypnobirthing. This is a natural method of achieving a pain-reduced birth, based on the principle of suggestion. Through hypnosis, positive beliefs are internalized to encourage you to believe that you can endure and control labor pain. This is not done by putting you into a trance state. Rather, in a special childbirth preparation course, you learn techniques for self-hypnosis that you can use in the delivery room. Breathing and relaxation exercises are designed to enable you to mobilize all the strength you need to bring your child into the world safely and healthily.
Positive experiences during the second delivery
Especially women who have already had a painful birth report very positive experiences with hypnobirthing. The delivery process was significantly shorter, and afterwards they didn’t feel nearly as exhausted, according to many Internet forums on the subject. Hypnobirthing is not yet so widespread in Germany, but more and more midwives are discovering this method for themselves and are undergoing further training accordingly.
